Biography

Elizabeth Dillinger was born in Bennington New Hampshire where she spent her childhood growing up on a farm surrounded by nature. Elizabeth also spent her summers on a small island in Maine exploring the woods and shores of all its treasures. Elizabeth’s favorite memories are of the colorful fabric spilling out of her mothers cupboards. This love of color and texture has been an on going journey and one she finds even more exciting now with all the new fibers, textures and paints..

Elizabeth’s mother and her friends taught her to sew clothes and do traditional quilting. It wasn’t till she came to Canada and obtained her Graphic Art’s degree that her worlds collided. Working on the computer helped her merge the artwork in her mind out onto paper. Elizabeth considers herself to be self taught from all the classes and books she has studied. She uses these tools to branch out and explore her own way of doing things. Paints and dyes are used to paint fabrics allowing her to create the color of fabrics needed to match the digital image she has created. Elizabeth’s quilts are a combination of piecing and raw appliqué.

Elizabeth’s thread painting and freestyle quilting are done on various domestic sewing machines.
Elizabeth’s quilts become very detailed with thread and adornments striving for texture and dimension. Her goal is to give the viewer the feeling that they are standing in the scene not just looking at it. Elizabeth’s quilts have won Awards of Excellence and Viewers Choice in Canada. She has won several awards in the United States including 1st place at the International Quit Festival, the largest annual quilt show in the world. Elizabeth has been featured in Quilters Newsletter, Quiltmaker and is a regular featured artist in A Needle Pulling Thread, a Canadian magazine..
